"Parents of a newborn
with Down syndrome should be reminded
that the prospects for their child's
future are generally bright. Each
parent's vision of the future will be a
product of their own beliefs and
experience, but it is not unreasonable
for them to plan that their child with
Down syndrome will reach maturity, leave
home for a life in the community, find
work in the competitive work force,
develop friendly and intimate
relationships, make choices for the use
of their leisure time, and make a
positive contribution to their
world."
